Wedding Week: A Culinary Tale

Don't even pretend that your favorite part of a wedding is not the free food, drinks and dessert. Everybody's gotta eat, and a party wouldn't be complete without some grub! So today I'd like to share what we served at our wedding to satiate our guests' palates, but first you might want to grab a napkin. You know, just in case you start drooling. ;)

Upon arrival, our guests were greeted with butler-passed hors d'oeuvres, including grilled vegetable and feta skewers (pictured above), cocoa and chili-spiced scallops on a pistachio cracker, and herbed goat cheese-stuffed cherry tomatoes (pictured below). Mmm mmm!

After our first dance, we opened up a buffet that included an antipasto display, crabcakes with red pepper remoulade, and italian sausage arancini. We also had a ham carving station and shrimp & grits served in martini glasses. They were SO good! I still get comments on the shrimp & grits to this day, but unfortunately there are no photos to show you their yumminess. We'll just have to leave that to the imagination I guess.

Kyle and I ate at a sweetheart table together, but it didn't last for long since we were soon up and about greeting our guests. Thankfully the Georgia Club folks made sure we had a to-go box of the reception food so we could really enjoy it later that night in the VIP Suite.

Once everyone was about done eating from the buffet, it was time to toast with some bubbly and dig in to the cake! Kyle's dad gave a hilarious but touching best man speech, and my sister gave a very heartfelt matron of honor toast.

The wedding cake was all strawberry with cream cheese frosting, made by a lady in my hometown church who I knew just had to bake our cake. Those who went back for seconds and thirds would agree that she's pretty darn good at what she does!

Kyle's cake from Trumps Catering was half chocolate, half white with all chocolate frosting and topped with fresh fruit. And of course you can't forget the Georgia "G" on top, which prompted us to play the UGA fight song as we cut into his cake. Go Dawgs!

That's it for our wedding food! Did any of y'all serve something unusual in martini glasses at your wedding? Or did you forgo the traditional cake and have an assortment of pies or cupcakes for dessert? The possibilities are endless these days. And in case you were wondering, I promise we did more than just sit around and eat at our reception. You'll see more on that tomorrow. :)
